Bermondsey Square

London

Bermondsey Square is a large mixed-use development, delivered in partnership with London Borough of Southwark, the London Development Agency, and the local Community, that is now home to a bustling art and leisure scene, as well as the world-famous antique market.

With an opportunity to support and build a Community hub around the long-running antiques market, we created a blended development to work, live and relax.

Not without its challenges, we made adjustments to ensure the market continued to operate on site throughout construction, whilst carefully documenting and preserving the ruins of C12th Bermondsey Abbey.

Bermondsey Square completed at the peak of the 2008 recession. igloo’s sale & lettings policies ensured strong completions by prioritising owner occupiers over buy-to-let investors, guaranteeing life and activity at Bermondsey Square at a time when other new developments experienced extended void periods.

Commercial lettings were also carefully managed to attract local businesses and independent traders, adding interest and value to the overall mix of uses in the Square. This was supplemented by strong-covenant occupiers like Sainsbury’s to provide a diversified set of income streams.
