Don Mclean

Development Manager

Don brings his creative thinking and extensive experience to his role, ensuring each of our projects are grounded in our Footprint® policy and principles. With an emphasis on a strong collaborative approach, he ensures development teams work with inspired design team members, and seeks to continue delivering the highest level of design outcomes, benefitting whole communities, for which igloo has a strong track record.

Don completed the journey to registered Architect in 1987 and for the following 12 years steadily developed in a variety of practices and on a myriad of building types, ultimately owning and managing his own practice, McLean Architects, for 20 years. A time which also included the design and build of his own award-winning eco-home.

In 2016 Don moved on from his practice, journeying to Cape Town to volunteer with UBU (Ubuhle Bakha Ubuhle) on a very ‘hands on’ project promoting low-tech but sustainable self-build housing technology in the townships. His involvement in this exciting work lasted just short of five years, before returning to home to take up a role with Glasgow School of Art as a Project Manager (Capital Projects).

Don continues to have contact with the townships in Cape Town, managing a fund with his wife which provides educational opportunities for those on the margins of society. Outside of his professional life, Don is also a keen portrait artist.
